  Hemoccult #16368
Hemoccult  This is the first line screening test for colon cancer. It is a simple stool test that looks for microscopic blood in the stool that may not be grossly visible. If it is positive, your physician may recommend 2 additional, separate hemoccults at different times. It is recommended that anyone over the age of 50 have this done on an annual basis. Things to avoid 3 days before the test (to avoid false positives) include Vitamin C, red meat, turnips, horseradish, artichokes, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, bean sprouts, oranges, bananas, cantaloupes, and grapes.
