| PLAC Test (Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2) #16464 |
|
The PLAC test is a new enzyme test used for the quantitative determination of Lp-PLA2 (lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2). It is used in conjunction with clinical evaluation to assess and predict the risk of developing coronary heart disease, and ischemic stroke.
The PLAC test is the only blood test cleared by the FDA to determine the risk of ischemic stroke associated with atherosclerosis.
If you have elevated Lp-PLA2 levels, you are twice as likely to suffer an ischemic stroke as similar individuals. Individuals with the highest levels of Lp-PLA2 and blood pressure are six times more likely to suffer an ischemic stroke.
Elevated levels of Lp-PLA2 are indicative of vascular inflammation associated with the formation of plaque within the arteries. This may play an important role in triggering a stroke. |
